The Reverend Leslie G. Reimer
Senior Associate Rectorlreimer@calvarypgh.org
The Reverend Leslie G. Reimer is Calvary’s Senior Associate Rector. She was born in New Kensington, PA in 1952 and has lived in Pittsburgh nearly all her life. She received a B.A. In English and Religion from Dickinson College in 1974 and an M.Div. From the General Theological Seminary in 1977. Bishop Robert B. Appleyard ordained Leslie to the Diaconate in 1977 and to the priesthood in 1980.
Leslie has served the church in many ways: as Interim at St. James, Penn Hills; as Assistant for University Ministry at Christ Church, Indiana, PA; as Associate for Pastoral Care at St. Andrew’s, New Kensington; and since 1986 as Liturgical Assistant at St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon. She has also joined the Calvary Church staff at various times to offer liturgical help, most recently as the Interim Associate.
Her Parish experience notwithstanding, hospital chaplaincy has been the primary focus of Leslie’s work. She completed a Clinical Pastoral Education residency at the University of Chicago Hospitals. She created a specialized ministry to respond to the spiritual needs of patients, families, and hospital staff involved in organ transplantation, serving as the Transplant Chaplain at Presbyterian-University Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. In 1990, she was named Chaplain of Children’s Hospital, where she has focused especially on pediatric critical care and on bereavement. She also works as an Ethics Consultant for the Center for Medical Ethics at the University of Pittsburgh.
Since 1964, Leslie has been connected to Calvary Camp, as a camper, counsellor, chaplain, board member, and for the past ten years, Associate Director. In the summer of 1997, she also became the Priest-in-Charge of the camp’s St. Michael’s-by-the-Lake Bishop Thomas Chapel. Leslie looks forward to the opportunity to combine this summer ministry to children, young adults, and families with her pastoral ministry at Calvary Church.
